About

The worst things you’ll go through in life are funerals…and weddings” – my Dad

My name is Dolly. I am 23 years old and did not grow up in a very romantic family. The most I thought about weddings as a child was during Halloween because then maybe I could wear a very pretty dress that would otherwise be inappropriate for your typical Sunday at church. This idea was always thwarted by the suggestions of being a zombie bride, or a vampire bride, or something…unromantic and ugly. Instead I chose to be Alice in Wonderland and one time, a mummy, but that’s another story.

So why am I here? Well, after hearing all the horror stories about families and weddings and planning I vowed to myself to make our special day go smoothly while maintaining a laid back atmosphere. The only thing that could possibly ruin my day is my fiance not showing up, right? Oh yes, and not having the right flowers, or the right music, or the right food, or the right bridesmaids dresses, or the right- Ok, I’ll stop.  My purpose is to document my experience planning a wedding which I seemingly know no nothing about. My bookshelf is full of bridal magazines, I scope out wedding blogs as often as possible. Luckily, I found the PERFECT DRESS and the perfect man! We are kindred souls and plan to spend the rest of our life laughing together, slow dancing in the middle of our living room.

A bit of our history:
Christopher is 28 and is West Vancouver grown while I am from deep in the heart of Texas. We met unexpectedly, online, while living in New York City. Truth be told, our first date did not go so well. He thought I was an over zealous, religious fanatic and I thought he went to The School of Snobbery and graduated with honors. Needless to say, neither one of us called each other. About 2 weeks later, we ran into each other on 72nd Street. (We lived only 2 blocks away). Neither of us said anything…we just looked scared and kept walking. However, I thought he was pretty cute so I sent him an email the next day asking if it was him that I saw. It was and he asked me on a 2nd date which went magnificently! That’s fate.

Christopher proposed to me on August 26th, 2009 just 2 days before my birthday. He took me to my favorite restaurant, chose the music for the evening, and at the end of the meal the wait staff brought out a chrome piggy bank which I had been wanting for months! He told me to look for my gift inside the bank and out dropped the ring. I looked over and he was on one knee. I’ll never forget what he said: “Dolly, you are the love of my life and I will love you ’til the day I die. Will you marry me?”. The rest is history.

We were married in Vancouver, British Columbia on May 16, 2010. Married life is incredible and I couldn’t ask for a better partner in life than Christopher. He is my rock. Hopefully all the brides to be out there will learn from my mistakes and successes. I’ll post as often as I can.

Always,
